Who is Sheila Fleet?

Sheila Fleet grew up on a family farm on South Ronaldsay in Orkney, looking out over the Pentland Firth. She left school at 15, but a sketching trip along the coast with her sister set her on the path to art.

She went on to study at Edinburgh College of Art in the 1960s, discovered a love of stone cutting and silver setting, then spent years designing jewellery in London before returning home to Orkney in 1977.

In 1993, she founded Sheila Fleet Jewellery. Today, every piece is designed by Sheila and made by a team of skilled craftspeople in her workshop on Orkney, a family business now helped run by her son.

💎 In 2013, Sheila was awarded an OBE for services to the jewellery industry.

The secret is in the enamel

The thing most people fall in love with first is the colour.

Sheila Fleet pieces are hand-enamelled, with rich colour fused into the recesses of the sterling silver. Each colourway is Sheila's own, and many are named after the Orkney landscape that inspired them.

You'll find names like:

• Skaill
• Arctic Blue
• Lichen
• Meadow
• Opalescent

Because the enamel is applied by hand, every piece has its own tiny variations. No two are ever completely identical.

Every collection tells an Orkney story

Sheila's designs are inspired by Orkney's landscape, seascape and skies, as well as nature, Celtic design and Scottish tradition. Once you know the story, you'll never look at your jewellery the same way again.

🌊 Arctic Stream captures ice, rock and flowing water.

🪨 Shoreline Pebbles scatters smooth pebble shapes across the silver, like a walk along an Orkney beach.

⛈️ Storm twists and intertwines like a wild sea.

🌾 Wild Grasses echoes the marram grass that grows on the dunes.

🌕 Lunar features Sheila's textured cup-mark design.

🍃 Rowan draws on Scottish lore, where the rowan tree has long been linked with protection.

What do the runes on Sheila Fleet jewellery say?

This is the part people love to discover.

Orkney was ruled by the Norse for centuries, and its Viking heritage is still everywhere. Sheila's Runic collection carries real words spelled out in runic letters, so your jewellery quietly carries a message only those in the know can read.

Some pieces read 'Orkney Isles'. Others read something even more personal...
