Early Victorian Pique Tortoise Shell Brooch
Early Victorian Pique Tortoise Shell Brooch
This treasured antiquity is crafted from tortoiseshell that has been inlaid with gold to present the image of a bee.
The process of making this brooch has been lost over time, it has been delicately crafted by heating the tortoiseshell and pressing the gold pattern in.
Brooches such as this one were worn as mourning jewellery to signify the wearer was experiencing bereavement.
